DRIES VAN NOTEN womenswear AW 2013 | dissection 0.1: LAYERING

Dries Van Noten AW 2013

Dries Van Noten‘s collections, as well all know, are characterised by his use of prints, colours, fabrics and the combination of the masculine and the feminine. Layering is one aspect that is also associated with the brand’s style, which is evident in his collections, season after season. For AW 2013, tiered pieces cleverly multiplied its layering effect, in the form of long tiered skirts, dresses and skirted trousers, giving the silhouette shape and structure.

plaid shirts and floor-skimming skirts @ QASIMI AW12

The baseball caps and the boxy tops layered over the shirts in Qasimi‘s autumn/winter 2012 collection gives the collection a boyish and slightly urban look. Soft and transparent plaid shirts are juxtaposed with the heaviness of the floor-skimming skirts, which create great balance. The ultra-long skirts does not threaten its masculine look, making the skirt a more acceptable piece of garment for men.

selection: A.F. VANDEVORST AW 2012

Highly stylised and rather mysterious, A.F. Vandevorst autumn/winter 2012 collection includes chunky scarves and oversized hats concealing the models faces, resembling Griffin from H.G. Wells ‘The Invisible Man’. The collection also includes super long and oversized outerwear mainly in dark colour palette of black and grey.

flashback: LANVIN MENSWEAR AW 2010

Looking back at Lanvin‘s menswear autumn/winter 2010 collection; the wide belt, wide-legged trousers, the rucksacks and the colour palette. It’s a great collection that combines formal tailoring with casual aesthetics. Cinched in waist creates a modern silhouette for menswear.
